Marquita Ping has been reported as admitting that she has and will use foam pads to fill out her shape in response to clients desires in the so called “plus size” fashion industry.
I posted the link on Simply Be’s Facebook, where i often write little titbits, this was my comment:
“I think that with any clothing or make up product, advertisement should represent and value your customers. If your plus size customer didn’t like being a tubbo, they probably won’t be fat for long and therefore out of your target audience.
So where is the financial benefit to weighting what is aesthetic, outside of your majority. Issues with sample sizes…. well if you are manufacturing products for say up to size 32, why the hell aren’t you at least producing 2 sample sizes on a sliding scale to ensure a reasonable fit on the varying proportions of a growing physique?
Fashion does not dictate beauty, fashion suggests what the majority will wear, season dependant and often irrelevant of comfort. So in an industry reliant on air brushing and heavy edititing, allowing one of their “plus size” models to pad up shouldn’t be a surprise.
I’d rather eat a cake! (Blackforest gateau if you please)”
The fact that at the Simply Be Zandra Rhodes line release i attended, out of the plus size community and competition winners attending, there was no one smaller than a large 18 there, speaks volumes! (in more way than one).
It’s pathetic and irresponsible, but not surprising. It’s fashion dahling.. you are only beautiful if “they” say you are!
